The prestigious White Rose Awards are organised by Welcome to Yorkshire and they recognise the very best businesses from throughout Yorkshire.
The tourism industry brings in more than £7 Billion annually and attracts around 216 million visitors each year across Yorkshire – so to win one of Yorkshire’s annual tourism awards would be no mean feat.
The chair of the White Rose Judges, said:
“With so many strong entries, shortlisting was very difficult this year. Choosing the eventual winners is going to be really tough.”
Sir Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said:
“The quality of this years’ entries has been exceptional and makes me hugely proud of all the brilliant work going on in tourism in the county. It’s an honour to be part of these awards that recognise the many businesses and organisations that make Yorkshire such an amazing destination.”
Being shortlisted for an awards doesn’t just recognise the gardens themselves, but it is also a testament to my fantastic staff who all work so hard to make sure the gardens look their very best for all our visitors during our open season. There’s so much that goes on ‘behind the scenes’ – the watering alone during a dry spell is a huge task!
In the next few weeks, we can expect to be ‘mystery shopped’! I do hope they enjoy the gardens and cake in the cafe as much as so many of our visitors do – we receive many lovely comments on Trip Advisor, our Facebook page and Travel Zoo, not to mention our survey forms. Finger’s crossed that they visit when the sun is shining as that makes everything look truly spectacular and will, I am sure, help our cause in the Small Visitor Attraction Category!
