Thursday 9th July – Developing a Garden Sketchbook Workshop.
A sketchbook is an ideal way to record the changing seasons in the garden and is a valuable
resource for developing artwork.
This day course with tutor Peter David Scott, is designed to help students improve their
sketching technique and to assist in developing a visual garden journal from their work. These
lovely gardens are an ideal place to draw natural plant forms, with birds and butterflies to add
movement to the page. Practical advice will be given on outdoor painting, on compiling a
lightweight sketching kit, and there will be the opportunity to try some different sketching
methods and media.
A little previous experience in watercolour painting is advisable for this course.
Peter David Scott is a regular tutor at Stillingfleet Lodge Gardens and an award winning book
illustrator. He works with TV naturalist Nick Baker on the monthly ‘Hidden Britain’ feature for
BBC Wildlife magazine.
