10th April - Poultry Keepers Course - Morning Session

This hands on course is designed for new poultry keepers and covers all aspects of poultry care including:

  1. Positioning your poultry house correctly.
  2. Poultry house maintenance.
  3. Daily and weekly cleaning.
  4. Feeding and drinking.
  5. Health care, hands on.
  6. Egg laying.
  7. Seasonal care
  8. Final questions

Course starts from 9.30am to 12.30pm. Cost: £22.00 including coffee and biscuits.

10th April - Poultry Keepers Course - Afternoon Session (a repeat of the Morning Session)

Course starts from 1.00pm to 4.00pm. Cost: £22.00 including coffee and biscuits.

24th April - Look at new ways to improve your garden

Addressing the top ten common faults in most gardens, garden designer Lizzie Tulip, will illustrate ways you can add new sparkle to your garden. Look at ways to brighten up those forgotten corners, add height and structure to the garden and encourage you to enjoy your garden all year round.

Course starts from 10am to 12 noon. Cost: £15.00 including coffee and biscuits.

28th April - Making the most of shade in the garden

We will talk about the different types of shade, how to improve the conditions and to look at it as an asset not a problem. Then we will look at the numerous plants which thrive in shade, followed by a walk around the garden to see many of them growing. Lots of handouts for you to take home.

Course starts from 10am to 12 noon. RHS Course. Members £10.00. Non-members £12.00.

5th May - Small trees for small gardens

Learn about the many small trees available, the different shapes and sizes. Look at catalogues and take home the many handouts. Then go around the garden to see many of the trees discussed, especially Malus, Prunus and Sorbus, many of which will be in flower.

22nd May - Try your hand at watercolour painting

Helen Wright, an inspirational teacher will help you to produce a wonderful painting of the garden. If you have any equipment do bring it but we can provide basics for beginners.

Course starts from 10am to 4pm. Cost: £25.00 including coffee and biscuits. Please bring a packed lunch.

9th June - Making your garden a wildlife haven

Learn about wildflower meadows, ways to encourage birds, the type of cover needed for winter protection, wildlife ponds and how to be as organic as possible.

Course starts from 10am to 12 noon. Cost: £12.00 including coffee and biscuits.

23rd June - Meadows

Led by Ione Bareau MIEEM (BSc. Biol. Sci. Hons. ZOOL) This will include grass identification; starting a meadow from scratch; selecting plants suitable for your pH; and how to care for established meadows.

Course starts from 10am to 12 noon. Cost: £12.00 including coffee and biscuits.

14th July - Fascinating ferns

Learn what to choose for different soils and aspects. Barry Wright who has grown and loved ferns for many years will talk about the many different varieties and will show you how to propagate your favourites.

In the morning come and learn all about choosing and growing herbs with Pandora Thoresby from Yorkstock Herbs. Then in the afternoon walk down the drive to Harmony House Cookery School and have demonstrations on cooking with herbs with Cordon Bleu trained Hilary Finney.

Course starts from 10am to 4pm. Cost: £30.00 including coffee and biscuits. Please bring a packed lunch.
